The Trust is run by volunteers who are helpers from previous holidays.

Principally the trustees and members of the executive. Our holidays are run by a nominated leader who is supported by two other organisers and a broader team of helpers.

Our helpers are students or young professionals who volunteer their time. The strong sense of camaraderie, friendship and unity that exists between our helpers is one of our greatest assets.

Every child has the same helper over the holiday, who is devoted entirely to his or her well-being.

The helpers also include a group supervisor and a couple of ‘floating’ helpers who can lend a hand where needed.

Although every child has his or her own helper with whom they will develop a strong bond, it’s also very much about teamwork.

The range of children’s abilities means that some children will require less direct supervision.

All helpers are 18 or over and are known personally to the charity before they volunteer on a holiday.
Each helper provides two character references.

We have strong relationships with a number of social services and special needs schools.

Every helper is subject to a DBS check.

However there are always some 'floating' helpers, without an assigned child, who are ready to pitch in when needed.

There is a strong team commitment and no helper is ever left struggling.

In addition, St. John’s Beaumont parents and boys volunteer to help on the holiday week. This is an excellent opportunity for the school community to interact and experience the work of the Trust. Their time is a wonderful and integral contribution to our charity.

We recruit our holiday helpers by personal referral.

A first step to volunteering would be to attend a SJHCT event and meet some of the previous helpers and volunteers.

It is your responsibility to make sure you pack properly for excursions and ensure the children have the best possible care at all times.

If the below sounds like you then we would love to hear from you. Please email: recruitment@sjhct.org.uk.

Enthusiastic

No matter how tired or grumpy you are, the sing-alongs on the coach and associated dance moves are compulsory!

Energetic

Can you spend a whole day running after an excited child? You may have to!

Caring

Some of the children will be leaving their families for the first ever time. Can you cheer up a homesick eight year-old?

Imaginative

Could you be an enthusiastic rollercoaster rider for the twelfth time in a row?

Diligent

Your child may need medication three times a day, specialist food and a jumper or waterproof in case it turns cold.
